Using Chinese Herbs for Treating Degenerative Eye Disorders

Chinese herbs

Treating degenerative eye diseases like retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and optic nerve disorders with Chinese herbal medicine has proven to be very helpful to keep the vision stable, especially when used in conjunction with microacupuncture, a groundbreading acupuncture technique not related to asian acupuncture. The microacupuncture treatment (all needles are placed in the hands and feet) can help restore vision by healing the damage caused by various degenerative eye disorders.  The herbal formulas that are used within the Chinese Medicine modality to treat degenerative eye conditions have been used for centuries.  The main formula used today is called Qi Ju Di Huang Wan.

Qu Ju Di Huang Wan, according to Chinese medicine theory, helps to nourish the Liver and Kidney Yin (the nourishing fluids of those two organs) and Blood because it is the Kidney and Liver Yin that nourishes the eyes.

Here at the Arkansas Acupuncture Center we make a custom formula for treating many eye diseases; glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, optic nerve atrophy, optic neruitis, keratitis, myopia.  The formula is called Optic Regeneration and is based on the formula mentioned above.  Additional herbs help strenghthen the formula.  Frankincense and Myhrr help propel the blood deep into the tissue to help with healing the damaged tissue, Angelica and Cinnamon are used as guiding herbs to open the orifices of the head including the eyes.  Astragulus is included as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective substance, Curcumin is added to help invigorate qi and blood.

This is an excellent formula for helping to stablize the effects the vision disorder has on the eyes.  It is not a cure, but a helpful addition to the microacupuncture treatments I do to help the vision.
