Seeds of Vision Health

According to Dr. Alan Mandell, blindness and severe eye degeneration such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and other degenerative eye diseases can be helped by adding specific seeds to your diet.
These tiny seeds can protect your eyes from a number of eye disorders naturally. Seeds are nutrient-dense foods packed with essential compounds that support retinal health, optic nerve function and blood circulation to the eyes. In the video above, Dr. Mandell explains how oxidative stress, inflammation, poor blood circulation and nutrient deficiencies damage our eyes, and therefore vision over time.
Nutritious seeds can help reduce the destruction of the tissues that lead to degeneration of the retina and optic nerve. And remember, anything that helps the eyes, helps the brain.
The four seeds that help with protecting your eyes from damage:
- chia seeds
- flax seeds
- sunflower seeds
- pumpkin seeds
Flax seeds are best ground, and you can purchase them this way. Chia seeds should be soaked in order to gain the benefits; I soak for 20 minutes in coconut or almond milk and add cinnamon. Eat like a pudding. Pumpkin seeds should be lightly roasted in the oven.
